Drill-outs. Coil tubing or stick pipe.

Planned on software, watched in real time. We model the job before it starts, monitor every coiled tubing string while it runs, and bring all the tools.

What a drill-out does

In a plug-and-perf completion, a plug is set between each frac stage. Before the well can produce, those plugs have to be drilled out to open the full wellbore.

Drill-outs run a motor and mill either on coiled tubing (a continuous string, quick to run with constant circulation) or on jointed “stick” pipe from a rig. The right choice depends on lateral length, pressure and the well’s plan.

How the job runs

Step by step.

  1. 1

    Model the job

Design software predicts how the string and fluids will behave in this well.

  2. 2

    Rig up

Coil unit or rig, pumps, blending and flowback are tied in.

  3. 3

    Mill the plugs

Plugs are drilled out stage by stage, circulating debris to surface.

  4. 4

    Watch the string

Real-time modeling and fatigue software track string integrity throughout.

  5. 5

    Clean out and hand over

The wellbore is cleaned up and ready for production.

FAQ

Coil tubing & stick pipe drill-outs questions.

Coil tubing or stick pipe: which is better?

Neither is always better. Coiled tubing runs quickly with continuous circulation. Jointed pipe from a rig can be the choice for longer laterals or where more weight and torque are needed. We help pick based on the well.

Why model the job first?

Modeling predicts string forces and fluid behavior, so the plan avoids lock-up and fatigue problems before anyone is on location.

What is string fatigue monitoring?

Coiled tubing fatigues each time it is bent on and off the reel. Fatigue software tracks that wear so a string is retired before it can fail downhole.
